This has been overshadowed by the civil rights issues, but this is also important! If we look at time on a macro scale (approx 5 billion years), the sun will eventually turn into a red giant star and destroy Earth. And Earth may be depleted of resources billions of years before that. Any achievements in space travel should be celebrated because at some point far far in the future, the survival of people and any other species will depend on us setting up colonies elsewhere in the universe!
